In 2023 a new activity was launched aimed at encouraging more simplex operation on 2 Metres, a band which has seen decline in operating over a number of years.
Initially an idea by Tim G5TM, the activity has grown into a major national event with stations operating from many parts of the UK and Ireland. Usually taking place early on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon activity is high with many different types of stations from radio clubs to individuals with handhelds getting on the air.
Our first involvement was in early 2024 where Neil M6NAE operated a station on our behalf from his home QTH. However, recognising the potential and that the next event in May 2024 coincided with our normal Saturday meeting, therefore we decided to operate from our Walthew House HQ. At 1pm Neil started the proceedings aided by Simon M0TYY and with Alan G0ROW and Roy G6RSU taking turns on the ‘mic’.
